The time was 4 PM. School had ended about an hour before. Zel was supposed to pick her up from school at 3:10, for his workplace was quite close to the elementary school.
So where was he? As Koneeko looked at her watch, leaning against the pole on the play structure that kids slid down on, she sighed.
Looking up, the 8-year-old noticed that the sun was looking about ready to start setting, and Koneeko felt tears well up in her eyes. She wasn't used to being alone, and she by far was not used to anyone in her family being late; they were always on time, give or take a few minutes, but practically an hour? It was too much!
"Does anyone want to play?" Koneeko called, looking around the school's playground. There were probably plenty of kids here with a parent or something that had brought them just to play with other kids; keep them entertained for a while.
